Our Story
Rafles was founded in 2007 by Mrs. Shani Inpan, a devoted mum of two boys with a dream — to create a nurturing, home-from-home environment where children could learn, grow, and flourish. What began as a small nursery made up of little cabins quickly blossomed into a warm, inspiring space. Shani poured her heart into every detail, creating an environment filled with care, creativity, and joy. In 2015, as Rafles relocated just a few feet away to the former Cheshunt Rugby Club building. The move tripled its size, and for around two years, it operated as a pack-away nursery. With dedication and community support, it continued to thrive, soon welcoming over a hundred children each day. When the rugby club’s new facilities were completed, Rafles once again found its own home — a place where Shani’s founding ethos of warmth, family, and opportunity continued to shine. Today, Rafles is set within beautiful natural surroundings, where children explore nearby forests, feed ducks at the local pond, and develop a love for the outdoors that nurtures curiosity and confidence.

In Loving Memory and Continuing Legacy
On 31st January 2025, we sadly lost our beloved founder and director, Mrs. Shani Inpan. Her vision, compassion, and unwavering dedication shaped every part of Rafles, making it not just a nursery, but a true community — one built on love, trust, and the belief that every child deserves the best start in life.

Her husband, Mr. Muthukumaru Inpan, now carries forward her legacy. With a background in finance and accounting, he has embraced this new chapter with humility, gratitude, and a heartfelt commitment to honouring Shani’s dream.
— Mr. Muthukumaru Inpan, Director
“Rafles Nursery was Shani’s passion and purpose. I am honoured to carry forward her vision — to ensure that every child continues to receive the same love, care, and excellence that she so proudly cultivated. Together with our dedicated team, I pledge to uphold her legacy and strengthen the nursery year after year.”
